The first time I got invited to attend Happy Crew my view on mental health changed completely. I remember the first time I came my group had a question that asked, "What was the scariest thing that’s ever happened in your life?" As we went around in a circle it was clear that everyone has different lives and realities, but what makes human nature special is the ability to connect as a community no matter what your background is. When it was my turn I realized I was scared of so many things that I couldn’t even pick one. When I admitted to my group that the scariest thing that has ever happened to me is learning how to cope with my anxiety, there was a still silence at first. Soon, everyone started to connect with my hardships and explain that they have struggled to in the past and gave me so much support that I was almost overwhelmed. This was a pivotal point for me: I learned the importance of community and how it acts as a backbone to individuals. Mental health crisis might not have a cure, but the best one I've known thus far is having people who care and community.
